To the North of the oasis of San Pedro de Atacama is the Quebrada de Guatín, an area where the waters of the Puritama and Purifica rivers descend, originating a great variety of cactus. It is also known as Valle de Los Cactus or Quebrada de Cardones.
“Guatin” — where the two rivers meet — serves as a perfect habitat for the elusive Cardon Cactus. Many of them are centenarian and with heights that border the 7 meters, which are in danger of extinction. Enjoy stunning views of the rivers, cacti dotting the landscape, and the large rock formations on all sides.
